Hello to all of you wonderful people at home! Now I know this is not normally a thing I would talk about, but I thought it would be a fun way to spice up my articles. Today we will be talking about one of MSA’s newest additions to its theatre department: The Competitive One Acts, COA for shortening purposes. Now that I have thoroughly thrown you all a curveball, let’s get right into it!
Now I’m sure many of you have questions about what exactly this new type of show is, so I will run it by you for your leisure. If you don’t know, a one act is just at heart a shorter show compared to other types of shows. As the name suggests, they will usually only have one act to them and will be from anywhere to thirty minutes to one hour long. This is one of my favorite types of theatre simply because of this: you can have an entire plot, start to finish, complete in just under an hour! That is just such a cool concept to me. You may be asking, though, “How does the competitive part fit into all of this?” Well basically, it just means you compete against other casts to see who has put together the best show. Of course because of the competition element of it, the rules tend to be pretty strict. One of them, for example, is that the show length can not exceed over thirty minutes. With that rule in place, you could see how prepping for one of these events could be pretty stressful. It is a fun challenge, though, to attempt to create a set that can be taken down and put back up in a short amount of time. Sadly because of Covid, though, this one act will be virtual. That still does not ruin the magic of putting on a wonderful show. Speaking of the show, I should actually talk about the show that we are putting together at MSA!
So the show that we will be doing is called The Great Pandemonium. As the name suggests, this one act is basically just about pure chaos, which is incredibly fun to watch and perform. Actually though, the show revolves around a high school theatre director who just can’t seem to get his cast in check. The worst part is they have their show coming up within the next few days! So if you would like to see a high school theatre director attempt to corral his wayward cast, this might be the show for you to tune into!
So sadly for this article, I will have to bid you adieu. I truly hope that you did enjoy this article, even though it is a bit outside my comfort zone. Next week, though, I will be coming back at you with another gaming-related article. As for when this show will be released, it will be released on February 19th. As usual, have a great rest of the day or night!
