THOUGHTS ON AI-GENERATED ART

BY EDWARD STEURY

STAFF WRITER

AI-generated art is a strange and wonderful field, and although some are concerned about its impacts on art and the expression of creative freedom, I am here to somewhat naively sway that belief. To begin, I should perhaps explain the brief history of AI-generated art. The first real boom in public interest came from DALLE Mini, a small program that would generate nine blurry, incomprehensible piles of visual noise that sometimes vaguely resembled what you asked for. To me, interest was only gained because people looked upon DALLE Mini as a joke or because they were worried. After all, they supposed, “That blob of red kind of looks like a solo cup! That’s what I asked for! THIS IS THE TERMINATOR TIMELINE!” But then, when interest died down, as it so often does on the Internet, the topic of today’s article was born.

Plot Armor

BY NOAH FONTANESI

STAFF WRITER

Plot armor is a pretty known trope and frequently used, but it seems to be only talked about in a negative sense. It comes up sometimes when talking about a story, but if it’s used poorly then we notice it. After all, why would such an obvious trope be liked? You’re pulled out of the story, it feels muddled, and it messes with the rules of the world. Why would anyone like plot armor? Well, tropes only become bad when used incorrectly and poorly, and it also applies to plot armor.

WORDLE – The Best Way to Solve The Classic Word-Guessing Game

BY SAMUEL ELLINGSON

STAFF WRITER

If you have been paying attention to social media for the past couple of months, you would know that the internet has recently become obsessed with a new game, Wordle. The objective is simple: figure out what the five letter word is in six guesses or less. As you play, letters that are not in the word are grayed out, letters that are in the word are shaded in yellow, and letters that are in the correct position are shaded green. Using the different clues, players need to identify the new word that refreshes every 24 hours.

DRAGON PEARL: REVIEW

BY NOAH FONTANESI

STAFF WRITER

Disclaimer: This is not a spoiler free review.

When it comes to Asian representation in the media, it can be quite mediocre or not even exist. That was probably the first thing that drew me to Dragon Pearl as well as the interesting mix of science fiction and mythology based fantasy. Besides, everything that has a dragon is automatically good in my opinion.

How to Write Mythos

BY ALICE FONTANESI

STAFF WRITER

Because I am currently drowning in worldbuilding for a story that took me over half a year to strangle, let’s talk about mythos.

A mythos is a culture’s myths, and it’s a pretty common trope in fantasy to have all myths be true. This trope is usually used for urban fantasy, but it can work for any genre, depending on the worldbuilding. But justifying how and why all myths are real is going to be a bit of a challenge. You’re going to have a bunch of sun gods running around, so is the sun a huge group project or something else? And researching and cultural appropriation might also get in the way.

 Cinder Book Recommendation

BY ANSHI PEDDAREDDIVARI

STAFF WRITER

Fernando A. Torres once said, “mirrors are useless for reflecting who you are.” Marissa Meyer, the author of a bestselling science fiction book Cinder, clearly uses this important message in her story and in the rest of her series, the Lunar Chronicles. Cinder is about a 15-year-old cyborg that has the power to save her nation but is unsure how. Her country of Eastern Commonwealth and the rest of Earth is under a serious plague that is killing people every day. When the horrible sickness kills their beloved king, chaos strikes and the matter becomes worse.
