We’re “Soarin’, Flyin’” through rehearsals for MSA’s High School Musical Production this fall, opening on November 4th, 2021! The whole cast and crew has been working so hard to put this show together, so we thought, as Troy and Gabriella, that we would give you the inside scoop.
Rehearsals have been going on since the first day of school, but auditions actually took place during the summer! This is the first year we (MSA) has done a musical as the fall show, so it all feels a little like new territory, even though we’ve done tons of musicals in the past. However, after two years of being shut down due to COVID—except for our awesome small, intimate production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee—we’re ready to bring theatre back into the world with a bang!
In case you don’t know anything about Disney’s High School Musical or just need a little refresher, here is the official synopsis:
“It’s the first day after winter break at East High. The Jocks, Brainiacs,
Thespians and Skater Dudes find their cliques, recount their vacations and look forward to the new year. Basketball team captain and resident jock, Troy, discovers that the brainy Gabriella, a girl he met singing karaoke on his ski trip, has just enrolled at East High. They cause an upheaval when they decide to audition for the high school musical that is being led by Ms. Darbus. Although many students resent the threat posed to the “status quo,” Troy and Gabriella’s alliance might just open the door for others to shine as well (MTI Theatre International).”
This show is going to be huge—not only will we be using the stage, but we will also be building a huge platform to act as a stage extension and be using the gym floor! We don’t want to give too much away, but just know that our team has been working, so, so hard to bring HSM to the spotlight. You definitely don’t want to miss this show!
