Cheers for Volunteers

With the conclusion of the holiday season, some of us lose the generous spirit the season brings; however, helping our community does not have to be confined to one month out of the year. Thankfully, MSA has Cheers for Volunteers, a club that provides opportunities to volunteer and information on how to get started!

To get more information about Cheers for Volunteers, I asked Georgia Enriquez, the leader of Cheers for Volunteers and a junior here at MSA. Georgia originally joined the club alongside fifteen other members as an easy way to volunteer; now she is leading the club as it expands into a larger community with approximately seventy members. For others who are interested in joining, I asked her what a club meeting tends to look like. She said she starts with a slideshow of announcements before she moves into leading an activity; generally, members can expect laid-back meetings. However, just because the meetings are relaxed doesn’t mean they don’t get stuff done! So far this year, they have “made blankets for homeless shelters, enrichment toys for the Animal Humane Society, and held a fundraiser at Cafe Zupas.” Additionally, they held a Toys for Tots Drive from December 11th through 15th. Georgia is most proud of the community created by Cheers for Volunteers; she says “it warm[s] my heart how many students at MSA show up for their community by volunteering and devoting their time to helping others.”

If this sounds like a community you wish to be a part of, make sure to consider joining Cheers for Volunteers!
